MOUNT BAKER ACTIVITIES

Looking for a vacation spot that is just as great in the winter as it is in the summer, spring and fall? Head to the tiny town of Glacier, Washington and to the east of Highway 542, you’ll be greeted by a sight that takes your breath away. At 10,778 feet, Mount Baker is famous for several reasons. It is an active volcano and the second most glaciated of the Cascade volcanoes (after Mount Rainer). Locals proudly tell visitors that it is also one of the snowiest spots in the world! In the year 1990, Mount Baker broke the world record for snowfall in a single season.

Winter at Mount Baker

Don’t be taken in by the rustic atmosphere of the place. One of the most famous snowboarding areas of the country, Mount Baker gets really busy in the winters. Roomy runs, copious snowfall and extreme terrain make this a favorite haunt of skiers and snowboarders, who return to these pristine slopes year after year. But there’s more to Mt Baker than spectacular skiing.

Summer at Mount Baker

In the summers, Mt Baker with its easily accessible trails offers awesome hiking opportunities. From easy to challenging, trails of all levels of difficulty await you here. Some of the trails are riveting. For example, the trail from Artist’s Point gives an almost 360 degree view of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan on clear days. This is also a great time for mountain biking, climbing, fly fishing, camping and outdoor barbecues.

Mount Baker is known for its magnificent slopes, spectacular waterfalls, striking scenic beauty, delicious mountain food and affordable lodging. All in all, a great getaway location, any time of the year!
